Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Conservatory Winter Wedding Photos - Vancouver, BC

While I first met Janica through high school in our French classes together, I’ve gotten to know the pair of them from our very first photo shoot in the fall of 2017. They had just gotten a new puppy at the time and wanted a session to document the addition to their family! We went to Green Timbers Urban Forest and ran around trying to get the best shots of a high-strung, crazy energetic blue heeler mix....It was a very interesting time!

Almost exactly a year later, I received a Facebook message from Brandon with talks of a proposal! I couldn’t believe it, I was so excited! It’s a pretty special thing to journey with someone through high school, get to know them and be able to be present to photograph the different milestones of their lives. We went to Green Timbers again to catch the lovely fall colours and sunset hues and it was then and there that he put a ring on it. BOOM!

Originally, they had been going back and forth about the idea of getting married at Love in the Square. Historically, the love fest had been planned to happen on Valentine’s Day, but this time we were waiting around and when we did not hear any announcement in December, we planned a different route.

The two of them were never types to bask in the attention of many. They opted for a more personal intimate wedding at the Bloedel Conservatory located at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver. Janica has always said she got cold easily so I’m not completely sure why she decided to get married in snowy February, but we were able to hide out in the warmth of the conservatory along with the tropical plants and birds that are in habitation there. We ended up having a lovely sunny winter day that Wednesday evening. It didn’t do much to curb the cold air, but we had the most beautiful sunset to light our snowy wedding portraits outside.

I met up with Brandon first that day and he was pretty excited to get started. There were some nerves about the vows and speaking in front of their families but when the time came, it was like the guests disappeared and he was only speaking to Janica, making his vows to her. When Janica came to meet us, she was electric with joy, excited to greet her groom (I had to tell her to slow down quite a bit during the first look photos!) Maybe the speed was partially due to the cold as well and just the necessity of warming up. Regardless, that ceremony and reception went by without a hitch and we got some lovely photographs in the process. Loved being there to capture all these milestones for you both, Janica and Brandon!
