The weather forecast had managed to bring out some sunlight for us and I was excited to take them to this wonderful little spot I had found for cherry blossoms. It was a special request of theirs because of the way her outfit would match the hue of the blossoms just that perfectly!
You know those people in your online community that you interact with often but have never actually met in real life? This was the case for us. We have been in the same circles for about two years and online "friends" for the better part of a year, I'd say…
If you live anywhere in the Lower Mainland or Vancouver, then you will know full well that snow is not always a sure thing that will happen during our mild winters. But I sure love a good snowy photo shoot and thankfully we have a bountiful array of local mountains to explore to find this particular strain of precipitation!
My day as the bride was set to start with hair and make up at 7:00am and I’ve never been an early riser. That morning, the sun shone brightly through my window and I couldn’t help but practically jump out of my bed at an early 6:00am: I was getting married that day!
It’s funny how year after year, these beautiful pink blossoms show off and we never get tired of basking in their beauty! I usually have a few locations up my sleeve when it comes to these gorgeous blooms, but this year, I found out about the blossom frenzy that was happening over at Garry Point Park in Richmond! Despite how busy I anticipated the location would be, we had to go and see what the fuss was all about!
How do you imagine your perfect lazy Sunday? Let me tell you mine….Wake up at 10:00am and lay in bed until I decide to get up and make a delicious brunch spread including smoke salmon bagels, bacon and sausage egg cups, and a warm and toasty caramel macchiato with extra foam on top…Netflix and chill the day away until it’s time to order pizza for dinner and cuddle up with my lovey. So basically, lots of foods, some relaxing entertainment, and lots of cuddles!
Mmmm, fall is here and with it is golden coloured leaves, cozy sweaters, and the inexplicable annual craze over pumpkin spice! And let’s not forget the annual tradition of fall family photos that many of us hold dear. Your family is growing and changing and you don’t want to forget this time...so you book family photos! Now how do you pick a nice outfit for everyone in the family while looking great as a group too? Here are some helpful tips to consider when picking what to wear to your fall family session!
As a photographer, I’ve had many a couple pose to me the question: “What should I wear?” and let me know you, the answer to that is whatever makes you feel comfortable honey! But you might be looking for a bit more of a detailed response than that so let’s give you some ideas on what to wear and how to put together a rockin’ outfit for you and your boo for your engagement session!
Throughout our last year of high school, we had gotten to know each other a lot better through the serendipitous way that our schedules aligned: we had all but one of our classes together throughout the whole year. Of course we fell in ‘like’ and started dating right after graduation! So can we really say we’re high school sweethearts? I don’t know, that’s up for debate!
In December of 2018, they spent the evening together and ended up at Jordan’s place. When she opened the door, there were hearts strung up all around the room and when Maria turned around to see what was going on, she was met with Jordan down on his knee with a ring. It can take a special person to open your heart and sometimes, it takes a little bit of a search to find that someone who brings out the best in you.
Ahhhh, who can resist a classic story of modern courtship? Not me! And so the story of Kevin and Colleen has found its way into my favourites section. They had met years prior at church, Kevin having come back from university and Colleen on the brink of leaving for post-secondary. Their paths crossed but only for a moment, and it was years later that they met again, this time with neither of them going away for anything, and this time with a mutual interest for the other where there was none before.
They first met while in school at McGill. On the first day of moving into their dorms, Alex was the perfect Canadian gentleman and held the door open for her as she carried her things into the building. They spent time together throughout their education at McGill and built a foundation that they took with them for their long distance years to come. One of them went away to Australia and another went to Japan. Somehow, despite the time zone differences, they held onto each other from afar.
We went to Queen’s Park in New Westminster to capture some moments with their family during this beautiful fall session. Would you believe we found this beautiful, majestic fall foliage right by the parking lot of the area? It was so gorgeous that we went to this location right away. I’m finding more and more that the autumn season brings with it such beautiful afternoon and evening light.
Deer Lake Park was actually the location that Christina and Jeremy had for their wedding photos a few years earlier! And so we came back here to document this next milestone in their lives: their first baby.
This wedding was one of the most beautiful backyard weddings I’ve been able to photograph! Every little detail was thought of and even in the most intimate of settings, a large and loving community came together to usher Lyndsay and Kyle through to the next stage of their journey together.
When I first met Jordy + Zay, what struck me most was their willingness to share about themselves. I instantly felt connected them because they were so free and able to let me into their lives and their hearts. They shared with me their vision for their wedding day, their origin love story, and even some ideas on how to make their engagement session especially unique.
…Almost exactly a year later, I received a Facebook message from Brandon with talks of a proposal! I couldn’t believe it, I was so excited! It’s a pretty special thing to journey with someone through high school, get to know them and be able to be present to photograph the different milestones of their lives. We went to Green Timbers again to catch the lovely fall colours and sunset hues and it was then and there that he put a ring on it. BOOM!
When we were playing around with ideas for J + K’s engagement session, a wintry snowy setting seemed to be the best option. You know all the fun options we have with snow, the potential for snowball fights was too irresistible to pass up! So we waited and waited around through November…December…January…you guys all know how Vancouver, BC winters are right? They are basically a mish-mash of rain, cloudy, freezing rain, wet snow, more clouds, more rain, some sun, and about 5.78 seconds of snow. That’s Vancouver for ya!
When these two first met at the car dealership they worked at, they were cordial with each other, you know the type of friendly that you sort of save for your coworkers? A nice friendly, platonic sort of feeling. But Cayman was interested in this lady that he was working with. It wasn’t until a full year later when Evonne was on her last day of working there that he mustered up the courage to ask her out, to which she answered “Sure!” (even to her own surprised!)
Zac and Kayla planned a beautiful wedding in September because they wanted to have all the beautiful fall colours be a part of their wedding day. Navy suits, maroon and blush pink dresses were all a part of this plan and on top of it all, they chose to have their wedding at the Secret Garden at Woodbridge Ponds in Abbotsford BC. Now if you have not yet been to this venue yet, let me tell you, the sheer beauty of the natural settings around this place is stunning! There are open fields, tree orchards, and mountains as far as the eye can see…
They were going to set the whole thing up and leave just before D + J made their appearance. When I arrived that Saturday, it was definitely decorated! There were so many personal details in the set up: a framed collage of D + J through the years, fairy lights that shone on the glittering gold of the cloth, rose petals scattered on a walkway to the platform…and even some champagne glass for some bubbly celebration for soon after the engagement! It was picture perfect…
Now Zsolt was a little sneaky when it came time for him to propose. He made sure that Alison booked off the first Saturday of September for a special surprise, he was going to take her wine touring! So knowing this, Alison was a little suspicious and thought that perhaps this was the day that he would propose.
When fall arrives in the lower mainland, we see a beautiful colour change in the leaves of the trees and bushes. Greens turns to beautiful yellows and vibrant reds, it’s no wonder that many families choose this time of year to get their family photos taken! I’ve had the privilege of knowing this particular family since 2012
Here in Vancouver, we usually have a rainy, rainy fall that’s wet and ucky…This year we had a beautiful sunny autumn and man, oh man did the leaves show their colours
Christina and Paul found in each other the perfect adventuring partner because they both love to travel the world and see all that it has to offer. In fact, when Christina contacted me over Facebook about their wedding, her profile picture had her sitting on a camel!
The time of year when all the gross teenagers come out and transform into beautiful high school graduates! I was so happy to have been able to capture Bill and Camille's prom photos and spent some time with them before their celebration at Queen Elizabeth Park.
We waited around for the blossoms to come and had planned the session for the end of April and crossed our fingers that the cherry blossoms would stick around, and luckily there were still many beautiful trees by the Rose Garden at Stanley Park.
Just popping by to share this ridiculously good looking and EXPECTING couple! Let me introduce to you, Kate and Steve; beautiful newlyweds and sports car enthusiasts. I went to high school with Kate and have known her since the tender age of 14 so when they shared the happy news, I was excited to offer them a maternity session to capture this spectacularly special time!
You know how some couples are extra cute and they have a box of suggestions that they add to for future dates and activities? Well Zac and Kayla are one of those couples and Zac had left a suggestion in the box for Kayla to find. And when she pulled out the suggestion it read "Marry me"...
All throughout their grade school years, they were more acquaintances than friends, but admiring each other from a distance. High school graduation come and went and it wasn't until years later that they reconnected over a beer at Central City Brewing...
